Personal review:
The movie was inspirational and emotional. You can even feel the pain every time a person gets hit. Starring Jaden Smith, Will Smith's son and Jackie Chan. This movie brought a lot of courage and strength to the viewers like it did to me.
Plot:
12 year old Dre Parker and his mother moved to Beijing, China to start a new life. Dre develops a crush on a young violinist, Mei Ying. However, Mei Ying's classmate Cheng, a Kong fu fighter whose family is close to hers, attempts to keep them apart by fighting Dre. Dre was also bullied in and out around school, thus beginning to hate China even more. During a time, he wanted revenge and spilled a pail of water at Cheng and his gang. There was a long chase with full of stunts included which led Dre to a dead end. However, Dre was rescued by Mr. Han who then revealed himself as a Kong fu master of some sort.
Han mends Dre's injuries using fire cupping. They then went to Cheng's teacher to make peace. However, the teacher who thought his students to show no mercy to their enemies, challenges Dre to a fight with Cheng. Han declined but was being threatened by the teacher unless one of them fights. Han then agreed to let Dre fight Cheng in an upcoming tournament but Dre must be left alone until the tournament. The 2 Kong fu masters agreed.
Han begins training Dre by taking off and on and putting up and dropping down Dre's own jacket. Dre kept on doing that for days and he soon felt paranoid and thus did not want to continue anymore. Han then explains why and showed him some cool moves. Dre's fighting was progressing. During a lesson in the Wudang Mountains, Dre notice a lady copying the movements of a cobra. But Han explain to Dre that the cobra was the one who was copying the lady's movements like a mirror reflection. Dre was thought more Kong fu and he tried to use this reflection technique on his mother which was unsuccessful.
Dre's friendship with Mei Ying continues. The both of them promised to be in each other's competition. They even shared a light lips-kiss. Dre persuaded Mei Ying to cut school for a day of fun since her Audition was tomorrow. However, all of a sudden, Mei Ying received a phone call stating that her Audition was today. After the Audition was finished, Mei tells Dre that her parents have deemed him a bad influence, and forbid her from spending any more time with him.
When Dre finds Han drunk and despondent, he learns that it is the anniversary of his wife and son's deaths which occurred years ago when he lost control of his car while arguing with his wife. Dre reminds Han that one of his lessons was in perseverance, and that Han needs to heal from his loss, and tries to help him do so. Han then assists Dre in writing a note of apology to Mei Ying's father, who, impressed, allows Mei to attend the tournament.
At the tournament, the under confident Dre is slow to achieve parity with his opponents, but soon begins to best them. He managed to reach to the semi finals as well as Cheng who violently finishes off his opponents. Dre eventually fights one of Cheng's classmates in which he was ordered by his master to break Dre's leg. During the match, that student delivers a devastating kick to Dre's leg, along with a series of brutal follow-up elbow punches Thus, that student was disqualified from the match due to illegal strike. Dre was incapacitated, which means Cheng will win by default if Dre does not return to the arena in 2 minutes.
Despite Han's insistence to fall back from the match, Dre wanted to see the tournament to the end. Thus, he convince Han to use his fire cupping technique to mend his leg. Dre returns to the arena on time, where he confronted Cheng. Dre delivers impressive blows, but Cheng counters with a debilitating strike to Dre's already injured leg. Dre struggles to get up, and adopts the one-legged form he first learned from the woman on the mountain, attempting to use the reflection technique to manipulate Cheng's movements. Cheng charges Dre, but Dre flips, and catches Cheng with a kick to his head, winning the tournament, along with the respect of Cheng and his classmates, both for himself and Mr.Han.
Final comments:
Will Smith is a Producer for this film in which I, myself, find it very interesting. The father would be behind the camera watching his son act. KEEP IT UP GUYS :))
