The story began during the events of the first movie. King Harold and Queen Lillian did not trust the Fairy God Mother for certain reasons and thus the Queen felt that in order to remove the curse Princess Fiona had, which was turning into an ugly ogre by night, they should sign a contract with Rumplestilskin. However, Rumple was a very evil man and the King hated him a lot. When King Harold was about to sign the contract, good news came that the princess was saved. And she was saved by Shrek. Thus, Rumple lose everything because of Shrek and wanted revenge.
The next scenes, we see Shrek living his daily family life until he finally got sick and tired of it because he had lesser freedom and was not the ogre he once was. During his kids first birthday party, Shrek had a sudden breakdown and got angry as he was feeling annoyed. Then Shrek and Fiona had a quarrel and it was just so a coincidence that Rumple was hiding somewhere nearby listening to their conversation. He had a devious plan for Shrek.
When Shrek journeyed back home, he came across Rumple and helped him out. He then told Shrek that he could experience his old life for a day if Shrek were to sign a contract with him. It was a very tempting offer for Shrek but he signed it anyway.
Shrek finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, because that was the date he was born. Thus, his friends do not know him. He soon met a slave Donkey whom he rescued after being captured by the witches and were brought to Rumple's palace where Rumple is king.
After rescuing Donkey, they found a hidden area where many fierce ogres were hiding from the witches and the crew was lead by Fiona. Shrek and Donkey also met a fat lazy Puss. When Fiona came back at night, they planned that they should kill Rumple when he leaves the palace.
Meanwhile, Rumple realised that if Shrek shares his "True Love's Kiss" before sunrise, all this would be over. Thus, he sent his witches and hired a bounty hunter and at the same time telling villages to go hunt Shrek down. Thus, making Shrek's problems bigger and bigger.
There was also an epic battle between the ogres and the witches. And at the end, Fiona succeeded in sharing his "True Love's Kiss" when almost sunrise. Thus, everything was brought back to normal once again.
We then will see Shrek in his kid's birthday party telling everyone how much he loves his family. A final kiss between Shrek and Fiona while the crowd claps and cheers was shown before the movie concluded. THE END
